Money - Disconnected from a Loving Heart

I have a wild-eyed fire-y passion when I see money wielded in hands disconnected from a loving heart.

(I believe each being has a loving heart, some are just buried deeply beneath encrusted layers of fear)

I was offline for 36 hours, during the horror that unfolded in Uvalde - only a few days after the tragedy in Buffalo, and before even more.

I was in the woods by a creek - enchanted by the moss, the unfurling ferns, the fragrant Cedar, Spruce, and the way the water rolls over some rocks in the softest cascade.

A verdant ecosystem. A symbiotic, flourishing - THRIVING - forest system.

I felt resonance with the messages I have done my best to convey in the course I just completed - a space for heart-centered people to explore a more peaceful, confident, and successful relationship with money through metaphors drawn from the natural world.

I hear too many see money as THE problem of our time.

And. You are not wrong if you have hated money, if you have despised how it has corrupted every value you hold - values like justice, love, the protection of innocent lives.

Yet “money” is a human construct. Therefore, it is our consciousness that shapes the quality, and the roles money plays in our lives, it is not money itself.

We are witnessing the crescendoed horror, the result of cashing in humanitarian values for money - the gun lobby buying politicians votes in spite of popular support for common sense gun control is one of far too many examples.

Money can shape-shift. It can be used to buy false power, an association with power not authentically earned:

Power over - exploitive, extractive power - rather than a power with, a power that flows by inherent design and understands its place within an ecosystem.

I believe that money, and the symbolic realm that it occupies in our lives and our psyches, doesn’t have to follow the model we have come to know.

When we witness this kind of systemic corruption of money and power, my fear is that all who have big hearts and sensitive souls will turn further away - unconsciously + consciously - from money simply because it feels so dissonant from their inner orientation.

When we turn away from money in any form, we turn away from the powerful healing potential it holds.

And right now? We NEED to reclaim and share this powerful potential. It is the reclamation of a different consciousness of power - through the medium of money, but not limited to it - that is essential.

How do we make this shift? It all starts in a very simple place - our very own checking accounts and quickly moves beyond - to bold conversations and influential decisions.

The seismic changes we need may not happen in my lifetime, or yours (though I hope they do)— yet

I cannot sit idle while some play this game to the literal death, while those with big hearts sit on the sidelines or turn away from using this particular form of power because they feel shame or intimidation.

Our collective transition to a new economic paradigm will not be in barter or bitcoin. It is seductive to think that a currency like crypto, or barter, will be the reform we need. I want an easier solution too. Yet corruption and exploitation will only be transferred to it if we haven’t done the work.

For the sensitive among us, the necessary work is to reclaim this power. To wrestle individually with our comfort having and holding more money, of meeting our genuine needs, of receiving fair exchange for our work, of having the very real resources required to stand up to the current power structures in the name of a new power.

The repair work is not limited to money - goodness there is so much more work.

I believe we will need to live out many questions and access new answers collectively - and I want heart-centered people confidently at the center of any financial conversations, not shying away, or intimidated by them.

Each one of us has a role to play - indirectly, directly - in what I have decided to call ‘the Great Mending’.

Some of us mend through our work. Some of us mend in our home, our community.

It is all needed, and all necessary.

My mending work is helping you to engage with money differently - more confidently, more peacefully, more POWERFULLY.

And. I will call, email, donate - and continue to share my mending work in the way that I do.

May you stay connected to your own heart - giving from it, healing it, protecting it. Our loving hearts will be what brings forth the change we need, the more beautiful world we imagine.

Take care,
Megan
