Billionaire Wealth v. True Wealth
Extreme 'Wealth' has been high in the headlines: CEOs. Billionaires. Oligarchs. Plutocrats. The ones in the headlines have a particular way of flaunting the power of their wealth.
A reckoning is underway. It's a moral reckoning for the means by which that wealth has been acquired. A reckoning of a financial system designed to produce extreme wealth for a few at the expense of many.
While the fractures have been spreading for years, I feel like 2025 will likely be the year the current structure finally breaks, illuminating vast possibility and potential for a new way.
Our inner work during this (tumultuous) time is to remain grounded in our own truth about what wealth means to us.
Our outer work during this time is to tend to our financial wealth with trust and care while seeing the possibility and potential that is ready to be born.
I want to share with you my new working definition of wealth:
WEALTH is a felt sense of contentment, wholeness, and harmony between your inner vision and your material reality.
I invite you to explore this definition as slowly as you wish. So you can metabolize it. Digest it - with your journal and some tea perhaps? Allow it to work within you until your own truth is revealed. Because this 'definition' is simply a place to begin the necessary inquiry of what wealth means to you.
"A felt sense of contentment..." what does contentment feel like to you? What happens in your body when you feel a deep sense of contentment? When did you last notice yourself feeling content?
"A felt sense of wholeness..." what does wholeness feel like to you? What happens in your body when you experience a deep sense of wholeness? When did you last notice yourself feeling a sense of wholeness?
"Your inner vision..." what is your vision of wealth? not your parent's vision for your life, not a celebrity's vision for theirs, not an influencer's, but yours... What is your inner vision, and expression, of a truly wealthy life? Hold this question gently, there's no need to rush for an answer, for it's a question that you will continue to answer throughout your lifetime.
"A felt sense of harmony between your inner vision and your material reality" when was the last time you paused to look around at the life you have created, noticing that it was once a dream, and is now in your life? This may be your literal surroundings - your home, your car. It could also be the business you built from the ground up, the amount of money in your investment accounts, the loving friends and family who sit at your table sharing food and laughter.
By this definition, you could experience wealth in some aspects of your life, but not others. It isn't an all or nothing equation!
Wealth is a co-creation between your vision and your resources. True wealth isn't guaranteed by a number in your bank account. It's entirely possible to be extremely rich and not feel wealthy at all.
The secret, therefore, is to define wealth for yourself so you can align to it. To feel genuine gratitude for the wealth you already have. To listen within to any dis-harmony, and align your actions (yes, all the necessary practical actions of tending to your financial wealth!) with the wealth you seek.
While none of us can know with certainty what this New Year will bring, I trust in your ability to positively affect your own life.
